Coffee Painting Workshop in Halls Bookshop, Llandaff
Discover the art of painting with coffee — no experience needed!
Join us for a hands-on introduction to the enchanting world of coffee painting. We'll begin with a short overview of the history and unique qualities of this medium, before diving straight into the creative process. You'll learn how to mix coffee solutions to create a full palette of warm shades — from soft golden tones to deep, rich browns — and explore a range of techniques including brushwork, spraying, and soaking.
The main practical project will be creating your own handmade bookmark in the coffee painting style. You'll have the freedom to experiment with different tools and motifs — butterflies, landscapes, botanicals, animals — and take home an original piece of art you've made yourself.
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners and experienced artists alike. All materials are provided.
Led by local artist Nonna Davydenko, this hands-on session offers a unique opportunity to explore creativity in an inspiring, informal setting at the heart of Llandaff.
Nonna joined the Llandaff Cathedral community in October 2022 after relocating to Cardiff from Ukraine with her son. She is originally from Kyiv and holds degrees from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts, where she specialised in Art Management. She brings significant experience as an art manager, curator and organiser of cultural events.
Nonna is also a practising artist and has curated and taken part in exhibitions across Wales that celebrate Ukrainian culture and strengthen links between the Welsh and Ukrainian communities. In her spare time she enjoys watercolour painting, gardening and cooking.
