A concert of American Song

Join American soprano Stacey Wheeler and her accompanist, Nicola Rose as they share a concert of songs and arias to celebrate July 4th.

Stacey Wheeler, soprano, hails from Indiana, Pennsylvania. Her singing engagements have been worldwide and include the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Théatre du Châtelet in Paris, Welsh National Opera, Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, Savonlinna Festival in Finland, Buckingham Palace, and Sarasota Opera. This Spring, Stacey sang in Welsh National Opera’s production of The Flying Dutchman, where she also performed the role of the Nurse, and their production of Blaze of Glory, where she covered the role of Adjudicator 1. In May, Stacey performed in Germany as a soloist in a concert of Paul Corfield Godfrey’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. She recently traveled with Welsh National Opera to Dubai and Morocco as a soloist and performed in their PlayOpera orchestral concerts across the United Kingdom. She has sung The Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte) for Oyster Opera and the Stephen Pimlott Foundation and Tatyana (Eugene Onegin) for Opra Cymru. Additional roles include Violetta (La Traviata), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Liu (Turandot), Barena (Jenufa), and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia). Stacey is an accomplished recitalist, oratorio, and concert singer, recently performing Strauss’ Four Last Songs in recital and as a soloist in Tippett’s A Child of Our Time, Handel’s Messiah and Rossini’s Stabat Mater. Alongside performing, Stacey enjoys teaching and is an Ambassador for the charity Save the Children. 

Nicola began her musical training in 1991 as one of the founding girl choristers at Salisbury Cathedral. She subsequently studied piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where she remained as a Junior Fellow, before completing her studies at the National Opera Studio in London.

She is deeply committed to education, outreach, and community engagement, and has worked extensively as a pianist and workshop leader with organisations including Welsh National Opera, the Royal Opera House, Garsington Opera, English National Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, and Opera Holland Park.

Since 2011, Nicola has been proud to be a Music Leader and pianist for The Forget-Me-Not Chorus, a Welsh charity dedicated to bringing the joy of singing to people living with and alongside dementia. She is an Alumna of Live Music Now! and Lost Chord, two organisations that take music into the community throughout the UK. 

Nicola has worked widely as a répétiteur for Welsh National Opera, Opera Holland Park, Longborough Festival Opera, Music Theatre Wales, Barefoot Opera, and the BBC National Chorus of Wales. She has also worked as a pianist and vocal coach at the Italian Opera Summer School in southern Italy, the Indemini Summer Festival in Switzerland, Oxenfoord International Summer School in Scotland and Grasmere Song in the Lake District. 
Since 2018, she has also been the official accompanist for The National Youth Choir of Wales. 

Based in Cardiff, Nicola is a valued member of the vocal faculty at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Alongside this role, she maintains a busy freelance career as a vocal coach, accompanist, and répétiteur across the UK.
